From Sherwood, try Eddy Rd then wind around a bit on a few roads like,
Chapman, Leander, Bell (take a look on Google Maps; it's pretty easy to
figure out) and get on North Valley Rd. Take North Valley to Ribbon Ridge
Rd, cross 240, then Kuehne and Abbey Rd to Lafayette. From there it is easy
to work your way over to Dayton. There are a number of options including
short rides on 99W and 47.

You'll have a few nice hills and low traffic.

from john's landing/macadam: i've taken barbur to hwy 10 all the way out to
where jenkins estate is located. where there's no shoulder, i haven't had
any problems. the traffic excuses you for being there.

i've also taken barbur 99w out to sherwood. it's just okay, but doable.

and then i re-read your post. no pleasant route that i know of. sorry.
