I have used the Tufo sealant on CycloCross tubulars with very good results. They were small punctures, I suspect from blackberry thorns. I've never used Slime. These are not repair kits. This is the sealant that Peter spoke of. It is basically a goo that you stick in the valve that will blow out the leak and then solidify hopefully sealing the hole. Slime is the same deal. It will work OK for a small puncture but will not seal a big one. I have not used the TUFO product but I have used Slime and I now that it can be a major PITA if you have a bigger puncture since the stuff will spray all over. This is probably more of a problem at higher tire inflation pressures. Personally I think that Slime is a marginal product and I expect that the TUFO sealant is probably not a lot better. Most tubular tires are repairable however the TUFO are not since they don't have a sewn casing that can be opened. I have repaired tires and used them on the track, generally only if they have tiny leaks that can be patched easily and safely. If they have casing cuts or tread cuts then I wouldn't use them at the track. The plan at Alpenrose should be to never get a flat since many flats will lead to falls. In addition, regular sewn track tires are difficult to repair because they will have very thin casings, tread and tubes. Road tubulars are a different deal and most of the tires that people are using at Alpenrose really are road tires. The thicker construction makes repair easier to do and not screw up. Tubular repair is not difficult but it is becoming a lost art. Never had tubulars before. Can these be repaired effectively to feel safe riding on the track? Haven't been able to locate the leak either, even after pumping up to 160+. It's an extremely slow leak. Put soapy water on the tire too and couldn't see any bubbles. Plenty of references on-line on how to repair; is it the opinion of others that it's best left to those with experience?
