Only became UCI (and USCF by extension) legal this year. Discs are heavier than cantis and that makes a difference when you're humping your bike over barriers and up hills. Its harder to switch wheels -- if you have them in the pit. -----Original Message----- From: Susan Otcenas [mailto:sus-@teamestrogen.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 3:40 PM To: ob-@topica.com Subject: RE: [OBRA Chat] Brakes for CycloCross: "V" vs Canti Completely ignorant question here. :) I've been to several cyclocross events as a spectator (not coordinated enough to participate) and was surprised to see that no one uses bikes with disc brakes. Are they not permitted? Are they somehow uncool? Or unsafe? The wet, muddy conditions would seem a good fit for them. The consesus is that particularly here in the North Wet, canti's have some major advantages. There were disenting opinions of course; this _is_ OBRA. :D I bought both pairs of Craig's Tektro RPB CNC machined canti brakes, so I'm in buisness!
